The largest division at the Canadian County Sheriff's Office, the Patrol Division is responsible for patrolling nearly 900 square miles. The Patrol division provides 24 hour a day law enforcement to Canadian County inhabitants. We had a population about approximately 130,000 in 2017. Canadian county is the fastest growing Oklahoma county and last year was the 35th fastest growing county in the nation.
The patrol division spends much of their efforts patrolling the unincorporated areas of Canadian county. They emphasize patroling outside of municipal areas that have their own police department. However, sometimes they are requested by county residents for services for which we will respond.
Our patrol deputies are highly trained and eager to provide excellent law enforcement services for all Canadian County inhabitants. Our patrol deputies are seasoned law enforcement professionals with hundreds of hours of training and years of experience. They provide exceptional service when called on by the public and self initiated activity.
The patrol division has several K-9s used to augment the deputy's enforcement efforts. The dogs are trained and certified for drug detection and fugitive apprehension.
The Sheriff's Office, through the patrol division, annually receives financial grants for additional law enforcement activities. Many of the grants are traffic safety related including speeding, DUI and seatbelt enforcement. In the past several years, our deputies have been recognized by the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office for their contributions to traffic safety.
The primary mission of the Sheriff's Office Size & Weights enforcement, is providing the safest environment for all motorists by enforcing over weight and over sized vehicles and loads traversing our county roads.
Our size and weights enforcement deputies are trained by the Highway Patrol's size and weights enforcement division. Our scales used to weigh trucks are annually certified by the Highway Patrol's size and weights division to ensure accuracy. Being trained by the Highway Patrol size and weights division ensures we're trained by the experts in this field of law enforcement and that we have a continuity of enforcement practices congruent with Highway Patrol's standards.
